March 2015 Board Meeting Notes
UVRC BOARD MEETING – MARCH 17, 2015 – 7:00 – 8:00 PM – Ramunto’s
Directors present: Tim Smith, Geoff Dunbar, Rob Edson, Jim Burnett, Paul Coats, Julie Paye, Mike Silverman, Betsy Gonnerman
Absent: Kim Sheffield
Observers present: Mike Gonnerman, Rebecca Stanfield-McCown
- Posting of Race Series on Meet-Up: Rob will post the MWRR and the Mountain Series on Meet-Up.
- Committee Review: Tim recommends that each committee have a “chair”/spokesperson, posted on the website, who serves as the contact for that committee. In addition, there should be contact persons for each of the training runs (i.e., Tues, Sat, Sun) posted on the website. The UVRS committee, which Geoff chairs, has been under the Racing Committee, and will be listed separately.
- Couch to 5K program: Paul reported he had been in touch with Kim, and they have developed a schedule. It will start June 2, go 9 weeks, with the target race being Run from the Law in Canaan on Aug. 2. Advertising needs to begin in April, with posters, but the primary focus will be to have the membership recruit friends and family members. It will be only for adults, not children. There will be a kickoff meeting prior to the starting date. Paul will also get together a list of those members who are willing to be “coaches”, with the plan to have 2 coaches at each of the 2 organized sessions per week. The organized sessions would be Tuesday 6:30-7:30 (after TNT) at the track, and Sat. 8-9, before the usual run, at Omer & Bob’s.
- Volunteer opportunities have now been updated on the website.
- CBHM: Mike Silverman, who is the race director of the CBHM, would like to offer free entries to next year’s race as prizes and for volunteers. It was felt that all who completed the UVRS series should be candidates for those prizes. In the past, volunteers have also been given free entries, and this will continue. Mike suggested that UVRC provide pacers for the race this year. Rebecca has volunteered to work on this with Mike Kokko.
- Social Committee: Rebecca reported from the Social Committee that attendance at this year’s banquet was significantly lower this year, and said that they are considering a band for next year, to see if that might be more of a draw. The banquet for 2015 will be Nov. 7.
- Shamrock Shuffle: Everyone was delighted with the huge turnout for the race, and wanted to make sure this momentum continues. People were asked to reach out to others to encourage them to go to other NHGP races. Paul expects that the Lebanon Rec van will be available for many away races, particularly Sundays. If it is not available, carpools will be encouraged. Rebecca will be polling the membership for rides to the Nashua Soup Kitchen 5K in April. Rob and Alex Hall have compiled stats on this first race of the NHGP series, and Rob plans to write an article for the newsletter with some factoids.
- Treasurer’s Report: Paul reported a balance of $3300.
