Board Minutes – April, 2016
Present: Tim Smith, Geoff Dunbar, Julie Paye, Betsy Gonnerman, Jim Burnett, Mike Silverman
Absent: Paul Coats, Rob Edson, Kim Sheffield
Non-directors present: Mike Gonnerman
- Report from Paul Coats: currently 253 members, which includes 55 UVRS participants, and 9 Couch to 5k participants
- Shoe Recycling: Jim reported that another box was sent off after the Shamrock Shuffle. A box has been placed at Omer & Bob’s. He hopes to have one at the Race to the Pogue as well.
- Singlets: An inventory of racing singlets is being kept at Leb Rec. Those who race at least 2 away NHGP races are eligible for a free one.
- Chief Maloney 10k: Many UVRC members have signed up to race. The van will be leaving at 7:30 from behind Lebanon Town Hall.
- Road to the Pogue: May 14 – It was decided that our mile markers would not be used there due to the terrain.
- TNT: The issue of whether there should be designated pace captains was discussed and deemed not necessary.
- CBHM: Apparently the course is not USATF-certified, so this will be done. The starting line will be reconfigured, to help with the runner flow. The pacers are all lined up.
- Newsletter: Jim reported that good articles are coming in, and we will continue with the current format for now.
- Couch to 5K: Julie has talked with Kim, and they feel there will probably be 3 groups – those who have never run and will begin walking; those who will start with a walk/run program; those who are ready to run from the start. The kickoff meeting is Thursday evening at 7:30 at Cioffredi’s. The first workout will be Sat. morning at 8 at Omer & Bob’s.
- Summer TNT: Kim will arrive approx.. May 14.
- Girl Scouts: Tim was contacted by the Girl Scouts, who had hoped we would be able to do some kind of presentation, but the deadline has passed and nobody was available.
- Elliptigo: This machine was brought to TNT last week for a demonstration. The question arose as to whether the club would be interested in purchasing one, and the Board did not feel this was a good idea.
- Running camps: Tim has spoken with Dartmouth Track & Field Coach Barry Harwick. His coaches run a camp for high school runners for a week in late July, and he indicated that he may be able to add on a few evening sessions for adults. Tim will have further discussions with him.
- Hanover Improvement Society: They have met with Bill Young and Tim, to discuss the club helping with the Fiddlehead Five Series at Storrs Pond. It was decided that was not a good idea. Bill Young has also presented the idea of a Main Street Mile, to go from the golf course to Main St. This could possibly be done in coordination with the 100th anniversary of the Nugget Theater celebration on Sept. 9. All agreed this was a good idea, and to make it a family-friendly event. Details have yet to be worked out.
