Board Minutes – July, 2016
Present: Mike Silverman, Geoff Dunbar, Julie Paye, Paul Coats, Kim Sheffield, Jim Burnett, Betsy Gonnerman
Absent: Tim Smith
Others: Mike Gonnerman
In Tim Smith’s absence, Mike Silverman led the meeting.
- Website Traffic Update: Dave Sullivan had sent in a report on website traffic. The largest no. of monthly hits was to the main webpage: 1300. Then: Race series: 723. The newsletter received 150 hits.
- CHaD: The club has been contacted by the new director, Andrea Denhart. She is requesting help with the mile markers and pacers, which the club is willing to do. She also told us that registration would be 50% off before Aug. 15, although it was unclear what the registration fee will be. She also requested that we promote the race in our newsletter.
- Pub Night: The first resurrected pub night was last week, after the All Comers Meet, and was organized by Geoff Dunbar. It was well attended, with plans for the next one to be next month after the All Comers Meet. Kim and Mike Silverman will be in charge of that one.
- Scholarship: At the last Board meeting, it was proposed that the proceeds from the Foliage Five Race be used for scholarships for local high school runners. Kim is organizing a task force to further explore this idea, and to identify criteria to be used. She has already reached out to the club for volunteers for the task force.
- Money: Geoff proposed that we consider hiring a coach, who could take over one or two Couch to 5K programs/year, as well as TNT assistance, and other more specific training (e.g. CBHM). He and Tim will explore this more, and report back to the Board.
- Dues: The Board feels it is time to increase the dues, as it offers more activities to its members, such as coaching, barbecues, van shuttles. As of Jan. 1, 2017, dues will be increased to $20/person, $35/family living in same household. Julie will study the demographics of the current membership, to get a better idea of what this would mean for overall income.
- Club registration: The question was raised as to whether online registration could be made more user-friendly, but Paul said it would require a processing fee of $3 be added. Jim Burnett thought it was still worth the extra cost.
- Sponsorship: It was decided that the sponsorship committee should be resurrected, and more sponsors sought. Mike Gonnerman, Mike Silverman, and Jim Burnett agreed to spearhead this.
- NHGP: Jim Burnett is currently the club rep, but would like to have someone else to assist and learn the ropes in order to prepare to take it over in a year or two.
- Committees: The website needs to be updated with current committees, their membership, and their contact person. Kim will look over the website, and help update.
- Donation: Jim Burnett received $590, as fee for certification of the CBHM course, and has donated this to the club, to be used for next week’s picnic/barbecue.
